John Carpenter - Escape from New York Italo Disco Version (1983)

Amici dello spazio, this here is a great italo version of the John Carpenter soundtrack for "Escape from New York", in German "Die Klapperschlange" (The rattlesnake). It was produced by the German Ralf Hennings - he released several 12 inches with discotized John Carpenter tracks (Assault on Precinct 13, Christine, The Philadelphia Experiment and a LP with shorter versions) and some other great italo-esque tracks, almost all a must have! Check them out!

Desire - I Can't Hold You Live in San Diego 2009

Amici, this is atmospheric italo-based new wave synth disco pop from one of the greatest hopes in pop music today, Desire from the amazing and highly recommended label Italians do it better.

I happened to be at their concert yesterday and talked to Johnny Jewel who is also the mastermind behind Glass Candy and Chromatics - great buddy, great talent, great passion - buy their records!

Live, all his bands sound a lot more dynamic, tracks are faster, you can dance to them easily, so don't miss them when they get close to where you live. This is how italo can sound today - like a (danceable) soundtrack to the next David Lynch movie.

The sound quality of this video really is bad, but you can get the energy...i love this track...enjoy.

Hohokam - Harlequin tears 1985

Powerful high energy track from the band with the strange name, produced by Gary Numan, released on his NUMA label. It was a success in the UK, but on the European mainland not very much known. Turn up the volume and wave your arms up and down while going two steps back and forth - this is the new wave HiNRG dance! ;)

Cristal - Phonic (1977)

Pretty coooool cosmic electronic disco track from a side project of Cerrone - have a nice disco weekend!

Telex - Moskow Discow (1979)

Amazingly amazing electro disco track which made it into the charts in several countries...10 points out of 10 on the "electro classics" scale.

Ken Laszlo - Hey hey guy (1984)

Haha, finally a real italo disco gem and a real success in many countries. Still love this one, get it at your favorite flea market and dance to it with your friends on a Sunday afternoon. Fun track!

Styloo - Pretty Face (Extended Version) 1983

Salve, finally a really really good not too cheesy italo disco track we loved to dance to back in our Rimini-style discotheque in the old days. Still love it!

Ganymed - We like you (the way you like us) 1979

When Brian Eno said "I've heard the sound of the future" in Berlin 1977, refering to Giorgio Moroder's "I feel love", sung by Donna Summer, some guys in Austria - not far away from Munich, the electronic disco capital - also produced "music from the universe" - the band Ganymed existed from 1977-1983 and they produced awesome space disco tracks, just like this one, which also made it into the charts. Turn up the volume!

Space - Magic fly (1977)

This is the classic space disco chart hit by the French band "Space" - they did everything right with this track, video and band set up - and they proved that space disco can get into the charts! You all know this one, but anyway, enjoy! :)

Hélicon - You ... see (instrumental) (1983)

Wow!! That's pure Italo-sound at its best. Very cheeeeeesy, especially the vocals. So I prefer here the instrumental version - that's cheesy enough! Try to get it if you love this kind of sound.

If you want to compare it with the vocal version: Here it is; and you'll know what I mean with the cheese-factor:

Peter Richard - Walking in the neon (1985)

This here is an upspeeded and a wave-influenced Italo-track. Great stuff! You can get some original copies on Discogs - but not that cheap.

Massimo Barsotti D.J. - Whole lotta love (1983)

Ciao amici,

today I present you a pretty weird Italo cover-version from the classic Led Zeppelin song. This here is the instrumental version.

Block Sistem - "Don't Leave Me Now" (1983)

One more of these incredible tracks done in 1983 by two punks in terms of "i got a synth, let's do an electro disco track". Wonderful, really, I love this one here. Hard to get as usual and not cheap. BTW, I love the fact that they wrote "sistem" instead of "system"...;)

Kas Product - Never come back 1982

Okay, amici, not italo, not disco, rather minimal wave, but I love this track from 1982. And related to my post from yesterday..."she's gone away" and will "never come back", hehe. ;)

Jimy K - She's gone away 1984

Heyyyy, what is this? The coolest italo electro disco track ever? Almost! At least the vocals are amazingly cool...I imagine a David Hasselhoff-style motorcycle riding leather jacket wearing curly haired gigolo that is chewing his bubble gum while singing about a girl that is gone and he doesn't really care so much. An amazingly rare record by the way, almost no chance to get it at a reasonable price.

Lindström - I feel space (2005)

This is a great mix-up of the Lindström classic with real sounds and imagery from the Apollo 8 mission. Enjoy!

Europe - Unisexappeal (1984)

Another great superunknown track, this one here. The scratch effects track are pretty weird, too. ;)

One year later, Mariano Boncaldo, the producer of Europe released this track, Baja Imperial from Plastic Mode which became a lot more successful. The instrumentals are pretty similar.
